On Gratitude: Goodbyes

I’m grateful for…

Goodbyes, because I’m grateful for being able to say it. To form the words on my lips. To say it loud and clear, “It’s over.” Over like autumn becoming winter, one frosty morning at a time.

So, goodbye. Goodbye to the nonsense. Goodbye to the pain. Goodbye to what doesn’t serve me or let me serve others.

But goodbyes also mean the best hellos. Saying goodbye turns a page.

So, hello to a grudgeless heart. Hello to waking up at dawn for ice cold coffee and handfuls of pumpkin seeds. Hello to forgiveness with nothing to gain except acceptance. Hello to the rest of my life.

Goodbye to who I thought I needed to be to be loved.
